Egan Routes
We’ve curated some of the best Egan routes for you to try yourself or with friends. Starting with Egan’s “home base” of Los Altos Hills, these rides venture south to the foothills of Cupertino and north to the hilly communities of Portola Valley and Woodside. Let us know if you have any favorite Egan routes and we can add them here.
Egan: The once and future route
The classic Egan route which starts and ends the season. With leg-burners such as La Barranca Rd, Quinnhill, and Madonna Way, it’s a great intro to Egan intervals.

Golden Oak Duo
As daylight gets longer, Egan ventures further north into Portola Valley, where fun climbs such as Westridge and Golden Oak abound. In fact, Golden Oak is so much fun that this ride features it in both directions!

Regnartrock
As with the previous ride, with longer daylight Egan ventures further afield, this time heading south to the hills of Cupertino. The notable climb is Regnart Rd, which has an average gradient of 7.4% with over a mile of climbing. This doesn’t sound so hard, but the last quarter mile has a segment named “Horrible Regnart” with an average gradient of 16.5%! As if that’s not enough suffering, right after Regnart comes the innocuous sounding Lindy Lane, which while relatively short, reaches 20% near the end. Fun!

Los Trancos/Vista Verde
Another Portola Valley leg burner, this route features a relentless climb up Los Trancos, Ramona and Vista Verde. With an average gradient of 11% over nearly 2 miles, there are sections surpassing 20% in several places. This is the longest of the Egan routes featured here and is typically done around summer solstice to take advantage of the extra daylight. What better way to celebrate solstice than to flog yourself up steep hills?
