We charge steep uphills and banter during recovery. Each week is a new route featuring challenging short climbs in the beautiful hills of Silicon Valley.

Start: Tuesdays 6:00pm during daylight saving time at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, rolling at 6:05pm
Pace: Charge the hills, slow roll in between
Regroups: We regroup and recover after every climb; if you can climb Old La Honda in 25 minutes you should have no problem keeping up
Example route: https://www.strava.com/routes/2874856572963175602 (click here to see more)
The Egan Ride is subject to Alto Velo's Ride Rules and all participants must sign an annual waiver.
Note: During the Egan off season, The Climbing Ride is held monthly on Sundays, starting at 9am at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce. Slightly longer than Egan, it features crazy steep hills in places like Los Gatos, Emerald Hills, and Hillsborough. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "If you are going up hill, keep going".

Egan 2023.11 Top Performers
The Oracle of Egan has reached the flat lands of The Lone Star State. Last Tuesday, we had two guests from Texas who enjoyed the tasty treats of Regnart and Lindy. Watch video below of those in love with Lindy. “If Lindy didn’t make you cry. You didn’t try hard enough.” Xu Lu
Every 1st Tuesday of the month, the Egan Women will start at 5:30pm. “We had 11 women. Gina got top 10s on every single segment! Yvonne showed us the benefits of her "Everesting gearing" with 4 PRs in preparation for her Everesting attempt on lower Montebello road. Show up any time during the day this Saturday to provide some Egan-style support.” Robin
CALL to ACTION: Come support and give some Egan love to Yvonne Walbroel on Saturday morning on Montebello
“The A group was tightly packed and really stepped up the power when the hills kicked up. Grant Miller had a phenomenal performance with 2 KOMs, 5 other top 10 performances, for a total of 8 PRs.”

2023.09 Robin Betz to lead Egan and promote and support women’s cycling
Egan Riders,
This week Robin Betz will lead a women’s Egan ride ahead of the men. The men will not be chasing the women’s group. Call to action: Invite all your female friends to join us on Tuesday evening! Let’s promote and support women’s cycling. Fun fact: Robin likes to build bike wheels and especially likes using the bearing puller tool. She has been attending Egan ride since 2018. Sometimes she does races but mainly enjoys hill climbs, the longer the better, and has a sub-hour Mt. Diablo!
We will split the men’s group (except women) by the last digit of your birth year: ODD and EVEN numbers. Example: If you were born in 1992, 2 is an EVEN number and you will be in the EVEN group.
For all of you who are not members of Alto Velo and regularly attend the Egan ride, we invite and welcome you to join AV as reciprocal appreciation for all the hard work that the club does to organize these rides.
See you all on Tuesday!

2023.8 Top Performers
Julien Amblard was rider of the day with PRs on all 9 segments and 2 top 10s! Gina Yuan got 8 PRs and took the top spot in the women’s GC. Jack Liu snagged the men’s GC. We had a total of 439 PRs!
It was a tough Tuesday and the pain factor increased 2x by climbing some of the most challenging Egan segments. Who will forget climbing Golden Oak at sunset blinded by the last sun rays of the day and gasping for air? But the best was waiting for us at the top of John Marthens Lane….
Egan by the numbers:
72 ice creams: gone!
48 Gatorades: gone!
40 bottles of water: gone!
1 surprise birthday party for Akin: done! (see video below)
Egan volunteer of the day: Simon Parton, who stored all the drinks and ice creams in his fridge few days earlier. Then he cut the ride short to bring all the above to the top of John Marthens Lane. Give kudos to Simon next time you see him on a ride. Great guy that embodies the true Egan spirit!

2023.8 Le Tour D’Egan est de retour
Bonsoir Egan Riders,
Welcome to Egan Show #8 for 2023! We have pressed the fast forward button since we’re behind schedule. It will be a painful back to future replay. On Tuesday, we will take you on a Tour d'Egan in Portola Valley. Oui, cela va faire très mal aux jambes! (1).
On Tuesday, the French Fashion Police is on duty, we will have two teams: bleu (group 1) and rouge (group 2):
If your bike is blue or green you are in Group 1. Yeah, wear a bleu jersey too.
if your bike is red, orange or yellow, you are in Group 2. Yeah, wear a red jersey too.
If you bike is purple, we cannot help. You choose your team.
If your bike is black, wear blue or red jersey or socks.
If your bike is blue but you wear a red jersey, you are disqualified from the Performance Report.
If your bike is blue, but your last name is Red, you have an identity crisis. It cannot be resolved on this ride.
Safety warnings:
Baker Lane has a speed bump at the bottom.
Go slowly downhill on Golden Oak and Minorca
Shift down to your lowest gear going down on Minorca. Yes, it is not a typo.
Expect something special at the end of this ride.
A bientôt!

Egan 2023.06 Top Performers
Siddhant Benadikar was rider of the day with PRs on all 12 segments. Yan led the group by over 3 minutes and Yvonne Walbroehl took the women’s GC.
This week Egan was rescheduled to Thursday due to evil rain. Despite cold weather, we managed to have a small group of fearless Eganeers. To spice it up, we added a stealth segment, Tanglewood Lane, that averages 15% and creeps up to 22% at the end. Then we chased our fearless Egan rabbit, Rhodes on Viscaino, resulting in someone exploding halfway. It was great Machiavellian fun!

Egan 2023.03- Déjà vu à 18heures Mardi
Welcome to Egan 2022.03!
Déjà vu is a is “French loanword” for the phenomenon of feeling as though one has lived through the present situation before. It is an illusion of memory whereby — despite a strong sense of recollection — the time, place, and context of the "previous" experience are uncertain or impossible” Reference Wikipedia.
For the 3rd edition of Egan 2023, we have a special route with 8 classic segments. Surprise surprise, it will be longer and harder than the previous one. At the end, you will be rewarded with the magnificent views from Foothills Park.

Egan 2023.02 Top Performers
Rider of the day was Evan Batzer, who got PRs on all 7 segments. Sam Schneider and Robin Betz (2nd week in a row) took the GC. Who is going to beat Robin next week… Alexandrine?
Eganeers,
Thank you for joining the official Egan launch ride for 2023! Welcome baaaack to the endless pain cave!!! Darn cold weather, but the Egan spirit was definitely on fire. Even Greg Finley, who designed this route last year, made the trip from San Jose to join the fun. Now, the data you’ve been waiting for all day (we’re certain of that!).
Egan by the numbers:
Total riders: 61 (per Strava) grossely underestimated. We would guess the total riders were more in the 70-80 range. Can someone count the number riders in the video below and report to the group next Tuesday? Special prize for the Eganeer who can count all the riders.
Total number of pizzas consumed: 12. Like true Pirates, we took over the entire space at SOM without reservations! Thanks Alto Velo Board of Directors for sponsoring. Don’t forget to join AV this year here!
Total beers consumed: Unspecified. Thanks Chloe for the pint!
Total calories burned: A lot
Total calories consumed post-ride: More than a lot
Temperature: 6° Celsius (42° F) at the end of the ride. Burrr…
23 Egan new kits on their way to be delivered early June. First ever Egan road suit in production!

Egan 2023.01 — Launch is this Thursday 03/30 at 6pm
The end of boredom is finally over! After multiple delayed launches due to crappy weather…we’ve decided to do a soft launch for Egan 2023 this Thursday 3/30 at 6pm. Yes, you read that correctly…this Thursday, NOT Tuesday.
We don’t take this decision lightly because it’s been a long Egan tradition to have the ride on Tuesday evenings. It’s also been a longer tradition to not have weekly atmospheric rivers, so this is our way of giving a collective middle finger to mother nature and demanding the restoration of dryer weather.
PS: The Egan Store is closing is Friday so don’t miss ordering your new jersey.

Aero wheels and titanium bikes are important when you climb Montebello.
At the top. The best part of this was the sportsmanship of the fastest riders (Matt, Justin and Tanner) who came down to support and lead the other riders who were still climbing.

Egan 2022 Season Recap
Dear friends,
It has been a busy season at Egan 2022. After a sad beginning with James’ sendoff to Australia, we kept the show going. We dodged many obstacles from fire, smoke, and extreme heat waves to a near mutiny. But at last, we completed an entire season of pain and suffering during the summer’s golden hour. We are grateful for this amazing cycling community.

Total PRs: 5,509 or 204 PRs per week
Total KOMs: 54 or 2 per week
Total participants: 160 riders
Average riders per week: 43. Most ever in one ride: 63 (underestimate, since not everyone has joined Egan on Strava)

Egan 2022.25 Top Performers + Egan After Party on Slack
Rider of the Day was Luke Sonnet with 12 PRs out of 12 Segments. Sam Schneider, our Egan rider from Sacramento with an orange bike with gravel tires, took the Men GC. Amy Koop first time Egan rider took the Women GC. Congrats all!
Last Tuesday, we were chasing the sunset all the way to the top of Foothills Park where our exhausted faces were washed away with the last sun rays of the day. The countdown of the Egan Golden hour has started, click here to join Egan After Party on Slack. Le puncheur edition was packed with 12 short climbs. We had a total of 165 PRs. It was a big ring day and sandbagging on a small ring was not an option.
“I don’t know George but i took his suffer pill, it was painful. Short climbs, full gas, minimum recovery. This is Egan” Yuval
Unfortunately, George was not present but we will celebrate again his Cat 3 upgrade upon his return from the East Coast.

Egan 2022.25 - Le Puncheur - George’s Special Edition
Eganeers,
This week we are going to celebrate George’s Cat 3 upgrade. Since George likes to climb on a big ring, we will do only short sprints, but a lot of them! We will squeeze as many as time allows. It will easier so you do not have to “sandbag” your efforts on a small ring. Count as many climbs you do on a big rig and post it on your Strava feed. Extra bonus if you climb Horseshoe Ct on a big ring. Unfortunately, no time for stealth segments this week. Don’t forget to congratulate George when you see him!
