Egan Ride
Bored with structured training? Increase your fitness with hill intervals! Welcome to Egan, a fun, social yet competitive group of eclectic hill climbers. We charge steep uphills and banter during recovery. Each week is a new route featuring challenging short climbs in the beautiful hills of Silicon Valley.
Join the Egan Ride Club on Slack to stay informed about rides and chat with other Egan riders!
Start: Tuesdays 6:00pm during daylight saving time at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce, rolling at 6:05pm
Pace: Charge the hills, slow roll in between
Regroups: We regroup and recover after every climb; if you can climb Old La Honda in 25 minutes you should have no problem keeping up

The Egan Ride is subject to Alto Velo's Ride Rules and all participants must sign an annual waiver.
Note: During the Egan off season, The Climbing Ride is held monthly on Sundays, starting at 9am at the Los Altos Chamber of Commerce. Slightly longer than Egan, it features crazy steep hills in places like Los Gatos, Emerald Hills, and Hillsborough. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "If you are going up hill, keep going".

Egan 2022.11 Top Performers
Rider of the day was Don Taylor with PRs on all 14 segments and a top 10 on the "E Byrne Park & Deer Springs Way" segment. Way to go, Don! That same segment proved popular, with Robin Betz getting the QOM and William Hooper the KOM!
Eganeers,
Wow, that was a scorcher! Egan rides are hard enough without an accompanying heat wave. Thanks to Mike Kato for the mid-ride water stop, which in my opinion saved the ride from becoming a complete sufferfest :-)

During the ride you might have noticed a friendly rivalry between George Wehner and John Janetzko. Well, the results are in: George beat out John by 5 seconds and took top spot for the Men's GC. John, better luck next time!

Egan 2022.10 Top Performers
Alex Obrand was rider of the day with PRs on all 9 segments, 7 top 10s and a QOM on Golden Oak (Bear Gulch to Alhambra)! For the men, Hoss Hayati put in an impressive performance with 7 PRs and a #5 cup on Minoca.
Eganeers,
I'll remember Egan 2022.10 forever thanks to the surprise birthday cake at the top of John Marthens Lane. Thank you Jerome (and my wife Stacy) for organizing it! The cake was the icing on an awesome route to Portola Valley that included Minoca Rd and both sides of Golden Oak. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday gift :-)

Egan 2022.09 Top Performers
Casper van Oosten -- who hosted Terún pizzas in his driveway last week -- was rider of the day with 11 PRs! Among the women riders, Robin Betz had 7 PRs and 1 cup. It was great to see her back on the Egan ride! And it's no surprise that Steven Wu bagged another Club KOM, this time on De Bell.
Eganeers,
Yesterday's Egan ride was the twisted brainchild of Mike Kato and former Egan leader James Nicol. James had come up with the idea of "progressive intervals" where each segment was longer than the previous one. Now that James is down under, Mike decided to do this in reverse, starting with the longest segments first. I thought the ride was a big success, and thanks to Mike for his creativity!
